A Situation Out of Time

A wave of disillusionment crashed over her, smothering the night’s euphoria. Gracie sat in glacial silence surrounded by the continual ebb and flow of conversation. Just as ocean waves pull at the shore, the sound waves continued to suck away any trace of happiness.

Indiscernible ice formed on the being next to her. It was clear the storm’s effects were felt there too. Realization brought the cold truth home. Nothing was as it seemed even five minutes prior. The idol on the pedestal leaped and ugly cracks clawed their way over the idol’s face.

The night’s festivities altered in her memory, leaving behind a sickness that spread from past to present nightmare. This moment, this storm, will alter the course of Gracie’s future.

Love it!! Gracie has a very "Lady Pole" feel to her. I really want to hear more. I love how much you've captured of the setting in just a few paragraphs. Are you reading more at the next meeting? Please say yes!!!

Trulee, this is beautiful! Much more needs to be written. I love it. K-Ry is right about how much you have captured in just a few sentences. I would like to hear more.

Okay, so I just re-read this actually and here are more comments: You have definetly not written enough here for us to identify what is going on. It seems very fairy tale-ish at the moment and yet, it could be the beginning (or the end) of a romance. hahahaha. I really think we need to know what the "cold truth" is. Also, the whole atmosphere is hell. The severe cold, the "clawed" cracks, nightmare, everything has the feel of hell. Without the fire and brimstone. hahaha. Interesting. She might be dead?
Hmmm...
